Drone operations in Mozambique are regulated by the Instituto de Aviação Civil de Moçambique. The information below is practical guidance and should not be treated as legal advice. Operating Categories. Operations are classified into Category A for personal or recreational use and Categories B, C1 and C2 for corporate and commercial operations. Category A operations are limited to 100 ft above ground level, while Categories B and C2 may operate up to 400 ft. BVLOS operations require specific safety-case approval or exemption.
Registration. Drones are registered on the Mozambique Civil Aviation Registry and issued a Certificate of Registration. Applications are supported by ownership documents and, for companies, incorporation documentation. Standard commercial DJI platforms are recognised as manufactured by an accepted original equipment manufacturer.
Letter of Approval and Pilot Licence. Commercial operations require a Letter of Approval from the IACM. The pilot in command must hold a valid remote pilot licence, and standard operating procedures must be submitted to and approved by the IACM before operations begin.
Operating Limits. Operations are generally conducted during daylight, in suitable weather and within visual line of sight. Applicable restrictions include separation from uninvolved people, airports, heliports, government facilities, military sites and other restricted areas.
Import Requirements. Drone importation should be completed using the correct approval and customs documentation to reduce the risk of equipment being delayed or detained at the point of entry.
