Drone operations in Seychelles are regulated by the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA). The points below are practical guidance, not legal advice. Always confirm current requirements with the SCAA or through Aerosmart's regulatory brief.
Mandatory Registration. Every drone at or above roughly 200 g must be registered with the SCAA through its online drone-registration system, after which the SCAA issues a registration confirmation that must be kept as proof.
Prior Approval. Drones may not be operated without SCAA permission. Both recreational and commercial use are allowed after registration and/or approval, and operators must follow the terms and conditions of any approval.
Weight Threshold. Drones of 7 kg or less may generally be flown without special SCAA approval, while drones above 7 kg require SCAA approval.
Airport and Sensitive-Site Stand-Off. Do not fly within 15 km of an airport or 5 km of a heliport without SCAA and/or air-traffic-control permission, given the islands' size and the extensive controlled airspace. Avoid State House, prisons, military infrastructure and other restricted airspace.
Privacy and People. Maintain a safe distance from people, buildings and vehicles. Do not fly within 150 m of a private residence without the owner's written permission, and do not fly over towns, congested areas or crowds without authorisation.
Operating Limits. Direct, unaided visual line of sight at all times; no night flights; a maximum altitude of 120 m (400 ft); and insurance as required by the SCAA.
